The Blender Girl Smoothies App is HERE!

The Blender Girl

As a lover of all things that could possibly be juiced or thrown into a Vitamix, I am ECSTATIC to announce the launch of The Blender Girl Smoothies app! How exciting! Here’s what it is, and how it works:

The Blender Girl and her healthy, blender-centric recipes have taken the world by storm—and in this comprehensive smoothie-making guide, she takes smoothies to the next level and helps you blast your way to good health and blended bliss. One hundred creative and delicious smoothie recipes each contain three additional boosters (like chia seeds, ginger, or wheatgrass) that ramp up the flavor, nutrient value, or both. And the unique search function lets you punch in what you feel (happy, sluggish, wired), need (a detox, to lose weight, to chill out), and crave (light and fruity, clean and green, an exotic ride) to find the right smoothie every day. Featuring gorgeous photographs of every recipe, an extensive ingredient glossary, shopping lists, blender tips, both Imperial and metric measurements, and other handy tips and tricks, this app makes it fun and easy to find your perfect blend.

Features include:

  • 70 Delicious Smoothie Recipes: Plus, one additional smoothie recipe released weekly for a total of 100 recipes.
  • Stunning Full-color Photography: In addition to images of every smoothie recipe, the app includes photos of frequently used and recommended ingredients in the glossary.
  • Optional Flavor and Nutrition Boosters: Three additional ingredients per recipe can be added to boost flavor complexity, nutrition, or both. Use one, two, or all three options according to your taste or sense of adventure.
  • Unique Search Functionality: Search by ingredient, dietary preferences, or recipe type, or use the unique story feature and fill in “I feel, I need, I crave” options to find smoothies that fit your mood on any given day.
  • Special Dietary and Nutritional Information: Recipe summaries list the health benefits of each smoothie, special icons flag recipes that are appropriate for specific needs (weight loss, anti-inflammatory, high-protein, alkaline, and so on), and nutritional info provides calories, fat, sodium, carbs, fiber, sugar, protein, calcium, and iron levels.
  • Imperial and Metric Measurements: Set the app to display your preferred system of recipe measures.
  • Customized User Settings: Personalize your experience by setting dietary preferences and update alerts or toggle between Imperial and metric measurements.
  • Comprehensive Glossary: Expanded information on the nutritional benefits of the recipes, including tips on selecting, storing, and incorporating ingredients—along with labeled photos–help you create your own delicious blends.
  • FAQs and Practical Tips: Straightforward answers to frequently asked questions, along with tips on building smoothies and using both conventional and high-speed blenders, give you all the information you need to become a smoothie-making whiz.
  • Blender Recommendations: The Blender Girl shares her favorite blenders.
  • Favorites: Identify your favorite smoothies so you can find them quickly.
  • Notes: Store recipe comments right on the recipe page to keep track of any tweaks you made, ideas for next time, or tasting notes, so you can find your perfect blend every time.
  • Share-a-Smoothie Capability: Share recipes with your friends and family via email or through social media on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
  • Quick and Easy Shopping Lists: Create simple shopping lists right from the recipes that can be edited and supplemented, then email it to yourself or a friend.

As if all of that isn’t awesome enough, here’s a sneak peek at some of the incredible smoothie recipes that this app has to offer:

Look Who's Nominated For the One Lovely Blog Award!

One Lovely Blog Award

Thanks so much to FIT FARMER for nominating me for the ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD! I’m super excited to be part of this supportive blogging community, and I hope everyone who reads this will check out my blog recommendations.:)

The Rules
– Thank the person who nominated you for the award
– Display the banner/sticker/logo on your blog
– Share 7 facts or things about yourself
– Nominate 15 bloggers that you admire and inform nominees by commenting on their blog

7 facts about me:
1. I’m a writer. I began with my first book (Happy Healthy Gut), and then I started writing for magazines (like Vancouver’s alive Magazine), and now I just write to get reactions, make a difference, and challenge myself. I’ve always loved to write.
2. I am 33-years-old. I have three kids, one husband, zero pets, and no more apples in my apple tree. (Because I picked them all to make applesauce, which I talked about a couple of blog posts ago.)
3. I used to have IBS, but I don’t anymore. 4 years ago, I began a whole food, plant-based diet that changed my life from the inside out. You can read all about it in Happy Healthy Gut!
4. I love to sing. Even though most people who have heard me will say I definitely can’t carry a tune, it’s because I have a VERY hard time singing in from of anyone aside from my kids (even my husband). But I can sing–for real.
5. I’m obsessive-compulsive. I didn’t really know this until I was a parent, but when you start comparing things with other moms and realize that you’re the only one who tracks days you work out, have a glass of wine, or feel overly emotional, you come to understand that perhaps you’re slightly ridiculous.
6. I love to eat! I’ve always been a major foodie, and I’ve always been willing to make myself sick for that extra stuffed mushroom. (Although I have to say, now that I’m 4 years in on the whole food, plant-based bandwagon, I can eat way more without feeling sick. It’s seriously ideal.)
7. I LOVE trash TV. Particularly the Real Housewives franchise, and especially New Jersey. Yup.

My 15 nominees:
1) Kitchen, Uncorked
2) Just January’s Jargon
3) Oh She Glows
4) Love Food

Bean Head Coffee: a product review

bean head coffee

Morning, peeps! I’ve been doing more and more product reviews lately, and I have to say, I’m pretty excited about the opportunity I had to try this particular one. Probably because I was so unfamiliar with it—it’s sold on the east coast, but I’m on the west, so you can see how I would be relatively uninformed.

Still, I’d like to think I know my coffee. Along with red wine and dark chocolate, it’s kind of my thing.

Bean Head Coffee

Annnyywayy…BEAN HEAD COFFEE. Have any of you tried this? If not, and you drink coffee, then you should get yourself some.

Here’s why:

  • I found myself comparing it to wine. This coffee is smooth and bold, with zero after taste. Anything I can positively compare to wine is something I need to have in my life, immediately.
  • The bag. I know this has nothing to do with the quality of the coffee, but the product’s packaging is AWESOME. As a self-proclaimed burlap-lover, imagine my happy surprise at seeing this on my doorstep.

Bean head coffee product review

  • It’s organic, high-quality, someone’s-put-a-lot-of-time-and-effort-into-this-product coffee. It sets a high standard. It makes my regular Kirkland coffee seem weak and depressed in comparison. After speaking extensively to the president of the company, it’s easy to hear the enthusiasm and passion he has for this product, and that gets me excited, too. When someone is truly proud of something they’ve put out into the world, you know it’s worth checking out.
  • Their brand-new, just-launched k-cups are organic and recyclable. If you’re someone who loves to support good products with built-in environmental/sustainable solutions, then this coffee is for YOU.

And me. Because I can get it out here on the west coast by ordering it from, which is what I’ll be doing. (Fun fact: Bean Head is the #1 whole bean coffee sold on Amazon!)
