Blender Girl App

Chai Tai

Serves 2

  • 1 cup (240ml) unsweetened almond milk or other nut, grain, or seed milk (strained if homemade)
  • 1 cup (240ml) coconut water
  • 1/4 cup (43g) chopped pitted dates (soaked, if using a conventional blender)
  • 1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of natural salt (optional, to bring out flavors)
  • 2 medium frozen sliced bananas
  • 1 cup (125g) ice cubes (optional)

Throw all of the ingredients into your blender and puree on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.

Boosters:

  • 1 tablespoon blanched raw almonds, soaked
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon flaxseed oil

Blender Girl App

Green Mojito

Serves 2

  • 1 cup (240ml) coconut water or water
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
  • 3 limes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 cup (25g) torn-up curly green kale leaves (1 or 2 large leaves with stalk removed)
  • 1/2 cup (18g) firmly packed mint
  • 2 cups (320g) frozen pineapple
  • 5 drops alcohol-free liquid stevia, plus more to taste

Throw all of the ingredients into your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.

Boosters

  • 1 teaspoon wheatgrass powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Mystical Mango

Serves 2

  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water, plus more as needed
  • 1/2 medium avocado, pitted and peeled
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 cups (320g) frozen mango
  • 1/2 cup (62g) ice cubes

Throw all of the ingredients into your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy. Add more water as needed to blend.

Boosters

  • 1/2 teaspoon wheatgrass powder
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon flaxseed oil

Blender Girl App

Grapefruit-Fennel Fix

Serves 2

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 1/2 small fennel bulb, cored, trimmed of stalks, and chopped
  • 1 medium red grapefruit, peel and pith removed, seeded, and cut into chunks
  • 1 green apple, skin on, cored and chopped
  • 1/4 medium avocado, pitted and peeled
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 15 drops alcohol-free liquid stevia, plus more to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) ice cubes

Throw all of the ingredients (except the ice cubes) into your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy. Add the ice and blast for a few seconds more, until smooth and chilled.

Boosters

  • 1 cup (27g) loosely packed baby spinach
  • 1 teaspoon flaxseed oil
  • 1 teaspoon pomegranate powder

7 facts about me:
1. I’m a writer. I began with my first book (Happy Healthy Gut), and then I started writing for magazines (like Vancouver’s alive Magazine), and now I just write to get reactions, make a difference, and challenge myself. I’ve always loved to write.
2. I am 33-years-old. I have three kids, one husband, zero pets, and no more apples in my apple tree. (Because I picked them all to make applesauce, which I talked about a couple of blog posts ago.)
3. I used to have IBS, but I don’t anymore. 4 years ago, I began a whole food, plant-based diet that changed my life from the inside out. You can read all about it in Happy Healthy Gut!
4. I love to sing. Even though most people who have heard me will say I definitely can’t carry a tune, it’s because I have a VERY hard time singing in from of anyone aside from my kids (even my husband). But I can sing–for real.
5. I’m obsessive-compulsive. I didn’t really know this until I was a parent, but when you start comparing things with other moms and realize that you’re the only one who tracks days you work out, have a glass of wine, or feel overly emotional, you come to understand that perhaps you’re slightly ridiculous.
6. I love to eat! I’ve always been a major foodie, and I’ve always been willing to make myself sick for that extra stuffed mushroom. (Although I have to say, now that I’m 4 years in on the whole food, plant-based bandwagon, I can eat way more without feeling sick. It’s seriously ideal.)
7. I LOVE trash TV. Particularly the Real Housewives franchise, and especially New Jersey. Yup.

Bean Head Coffee: a product review

Morning, peeps! I’ve been doing more and more product reviews lately, and I have to say, I’m pretty excited about the opportunity I had to try this particular one. Probably because I was so unfamiliar with it—it’s sold on the east coast, but I’m on the west, so you can see how I would be relatively uninformed.

Still, I’d like to think I know my coffee. Along with red wine and dark chocolate, it’s kind of my thing.

Bean Head Coffee

Annnyywayy…BEAN HEAD COFFEE. Have any of you tried this? If not, and you drink coffee, then you should get yourself some.

Here’s why:

  • I found myself comparing it to wine. This coffee is smooth and bold, with zero after taste. Anything I can positively compare to wine is something I need to have in my life, immediately.
  • The bag. I know this has nothing to do with the quality of the coffee, but the product’s packaging is AWESOME. As a self-proclaimed burlap-lover, imagine my happy surprise at seeing this on my doorstep.

  • It’s organic, high-quality, someone’s-put-a-lot-of-time-and-effort-into-this-product coffee. It sets a high standard. It makes my regular Kirkland coffee seem weak and depressed in comparison. After speaking extensively to the president of the company, it’s easy to hear the enthusiasm and passion he has for this product, and that gets me excited, too. When someone is truly proud of something they’ve put out into the world, you know it’s worth checking out.
  • Their brand-new, just-launched k-cups are organic and recyclable. If you’re someone who loves to support good products with built-in environmental/sustainable solutions, then this coffee is for YOU.
